A bilingual attorney, English and Italian, Giacomo concentrates on commercial law: sales of goods and licensing of intellectual property, particularly in the fashion and luxury products industries. His expertise in licensing and distribution contracts, however, is forged in a variety of different industries, from technology to cinematography, from literary to music work, from food and restaurants to hotel and retail concepts.
After a decade at Pavia & Harcourt (a prestigious New York law firm and pioneer in the international practice of law) Giacomo established his own private practice to act as General Legal Counsel mainly to European enterprises negotiating the U.S. market.
Giacomo sits on the board of directors of a number of the firm’s clients and, in the past, also acted as Chief Executive Officer for the US operations of an important Italian fashion house.
Giacomo is on faculty at NYU’s school of professional studies, Tax and Law Department for the Fashion Business Management program, and at the Fashion Institute of Technology, of New York, where he teaches fashion business and law.
With a special decree issued by the government of Italy, signed by the then senator Agnelli, in 1995 Giacomo was appointed honorary Vice Consul of Italy, while also serving as US legal counsel to the Consulate General of Italy at New York, and to a number of Italian Government Ministries (Justice, Foreign Affairs and Culture).
